Think About It - one more time

Please respond to this question when you have wrapped up your internship:

For the past four weeks, you have been deeply involved in the work world.  You have been immersed in a corporate culture, shadowed professionals, chatted with co-workers, and tried out many new "hats."  What did it all mean?

In the proverbial "25 words of less" (okay maybe 50 words), distill the essence of your internship experience.  What meant the most to you?  Maybe your mentor made a comment that really resonated. Perhaps it was something you observed in a co-worker that provided a "eureka moment."  A task that seemed mundane when assigned may have proved to be profound in a way you never expected.

Whatever it is, tell us what you will take away from PRIME 2018.

  1. After my PRIME experience at the Rader Clinic, I have taken away that becoming a doctor is a long and difficult journey, but the reward is to be able to help people out and change their lives for the better.

  2. After my PRIME internship at the Thinkabit Lab, I have expanded my horizons into a different STEM field that I was previously uninterested in. I'm looking forward to returning to the lab!

  3. The thing I took away from PRIME at NOVA Web Development was that being a really self-motivated learner gets you far. If you can be independent at times and find resources yourself, you can go far in any career.

  4. Something that I took away from my internship at Georgetown University was how important it is to have a good learning and working environment around you. Having people around that you can work with is vital.

  5. What I will take away from my internship is that all the work they put in was worth it at the end. Witnessing all the happy families at the movie nights made me realize the purpose for CPRO to make Columbia Pike a place that people want to live. I then understood the reason for the creation of the non-profit.

  6. The one thing that will always stick with me was the question my mentor posed ever since the first day at the job: "Do you want to be the builder, the designer, or manager in between?" It has opened my eyes to new possibilities in engineering and has made me rethink what I want to do for the rest of my life after college.

  7. The routine of going to work: sitting at a desk for about 8 hours a day, and going back home (cycle repeats) made me ponder and question routine. Though I really liked what I had done for the past couple of weeks, I'm not sure if that's going to change, knowing that I will be potentially doing that for the rest of my life as an adult.

  8. I think the professionalism is what stuck out to me the most. Everyone there has a job, and they get it done. There's no excuses. I think the fact that everyone in the office got there because of their hard work will stay with me.

  9. What I will take away most is that motivation is everything; if you have the drive and are willing to do the hard work, you can create and accomplish great things.

  10. The most valuable lesson I learned from my internship, is that how community is everything. If you have a good relationship with everyone else at the workplace, you will get things done efficiently and be motivated to come back to work. The community makes everyday feel different and unique.

  11. Something that I learned at my internship is how important it is to have a good relationship with your coworkers. You don't just want to tolerate them, you want to enjoy them as people.

  12. Among many things that I learned from my internship one key thing is time management. Time management is important in order to complete all the duties assigned to you because there are only so many hours in a day

  13. I learned about the inner workings of a funeral home. I really found it important how the way you dress and behave in the workplace around customers has a big impact towards their opinion towards the business and their willingness to use it and spend money there.

  14. The main thing I will take away from my experience at Rader Clinic is how all of my mentors really believed in me and my capabilities. If in the future I mentor an aspiring doctor, I will definitely take what I have learned from my internship and fully support my student.

  15. I always enjoy reading these final comments. They remind me that internships mean different things to different people, but everyone takes away something that is personally important.

  16. My Prime Internship at AETV taught me valuable lessons in video production. I got to work to create professional videos using techniques used in the field. I learned how to work on these videos in a productive manner and learned how to better myself as a producer. I think I have become a better producer and this experience will help me better my career in the future.

  17. A teacher had said, "there is a big difference between knowing something and being able to teach something." Math is a subject that I am comfortable with and want a career in but this internship pushed me beyond what a knew and allowed me to create something wonderful.

  18. One of my takeaways from my internship at Catholic University is that your attitude towards your work makes a huge difference in both your performance and your enjoyment, as well as other peoples attitudes toward you.

  19. One of my main takeaways from my internship at Stantec is that the perfect office atmosphere is to be able to have fun with your coworkers but keep a level of professionalism.

  20. What I will take away from prime is how much I like baking. I can see it as being a career for me. I enjoyed every part of it and am going to do a kot more at home.

  21. I learned that, while desk jobs hold a reputation of being boring, you can absolutely do interesting and fulfilling work in a traditional office setting.

  22. I have learned that professional artists don't just need talent, but must have strong communicative, social, and entrepreneurial innovative skills. I got to see firsthand, how my mentor runs a successful business and teaches as part of an art studio.

  23. This July, I had the chance to intern at the General District Court of the Arlington Courthouse. Working with all the clerks in the General District Court taught me to enjoy the little things: waiting for lunch, taking a break and talking to my co-workers, counting down until 4:30 and the weekend. PRIME 2019 has expanded my knowledge and experience of the work force.

  24. After completely my internship at Rader. I am absolutely certain that I want to go into the medical field. The experience I gained from working at the clinic and also getting a medical perspective from a military point of view is something that I will never be able to forget.

  25. Today is my last day at the CIM, what I take away most from my time here is that you have to be proactive. You can't just sit around and wait for work to become available to you, you have to offer your assistance, because odds are someone will need help, no matter how small.

  26. For me think-a-bit lab made me question if I thought I wanted as a career is actually what I really wanted. Which is good, because when I saw other interns working, I saw myself being interested in what they are doing. I wanted to know if that is something i enjoy doing or not. I thought that was really helpful.

  27. I am glad to read such insightful comments from most of you. Those of you who wanted to learn, did learn, and that may be most important of all.

  28. For me the Arlington County Court inspired me to be a lawyer and practice law as a career. This great because I always wanted to be the voice for people that didn't have a voice and someone people can rely on if they felt they didn't get a piece of the cake of justice. This really opened up my eyes and made me really want to come back and work with my colleagues.
